Table of distribution of medals at the Olympiad. Lesun tore everyone

On the night of August 21-22, the closing ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio ended. For Russia, these games have become very difficult, one might say scandalous. However, our athletes overcame all the tests and were fourth in the medal standings. And this is what the Olympic medal rating looks like.

10. Australia

There are 29 awards in total: 8 gold, 11 silver, 10 bronze.

On the first day of the Olympics, the Australians showed the best result in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle water relay. The women's four set a world record - 3: 30.65. However, it was not possible to maintain a vigorous medal pace until the end of the games, as a result, only 10th place.

9.Italy

The total number of medals is 28: 8 gold, 12 silver, 8 bronze.

Fabio Basile defeated the representative of South Korea in judo (weight up to 66 kg). Another gold medal will be brought home by foil fencer Daniele Garozzo, who was considered an outsider, because his opponent was the vice-world champion in this discipline, American Alexander Massialas. And as many as 4 gold medals were won by Italians in such discipline as shooting.

8. Korea

The total number of medals is 21: 9 gold, 3 silver and 9 bronze.

In the winter of 2018, the next Olympic Games will be held in Pyeongchang (a city in South Korea). The country's authorities have already promised to eliminate the language barrier that inevitably arises between the participants in grandiose competitions. A number of scientific institutes and IT companies are already working on the creation of new programs for automatic translation.

7. France

There are 42 medals in total: 10 gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze.

For the first time since 1976, the French have won the team dressage (equestrian sport). An interesting story is connected with this victory: one of the finalists Philippe Rosier is the son of Marcel Rosier, who was the Olympic champion in the French national team of the same sport in 1976.

6. Japan

There are 41 awards in total: 12 gold, 8 silver and 21 bronze.

The sixth place in the medal top-10 was taken by Japanese athletes. And the governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, received the flag of the Olympic Games, because the Japanese capital is to organize the 2020 Games.

5. Germany

There are 42 medals in total: 17 gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze.

Long-standing rivals of Russia in sports could not bypass our athletes in the total number of medals. The highest dignity awards, in particular, were won by: canoeist Sebastian Brendel, at a distance of 1000 meters in singles and doubles, and kayakers Max Rendschmidt and Markus Gross, at a distance of 1000 meters in doubles and fours.

4. Russia

A total of 56 awards, including 19 gold, 18 silver and 19 bronze.

A very pleasant surprise was the gold medal of our handball players, who managed to beat the Norwegians who were considered favorites and defeated the strongest French team in the final match. This is the first handball gold medal since the 1980 home Olympics. And the famous "mermaids" Natalya Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina carried the Russian banner at the closing of the Olympics.

3. China

There are 70 awards in total: 26 gold, 18 silver and 26 bronze.

For China, the Olympic Games in Rio were not without unpleasant surprises: the organizers of the games twice used their country's flag with incorrectly placed stars. This happened at the awards ceremony for Chinese athletes, and then Chinese volleyball players.

2. United Kingdom

There are 67 medals in total: 27 gold, 23 silver and 17 bronze.

Residents of foggy Albion turned out to be the strongest in triathlon (they took both gold and silver), at a distance of 5 thousand meters, rowing in competitions of fours and eights and in equestrian sports in an individual competition.

1. USA

121 medals in total: 46 gold, 37 silver and 38 bronze

Team USA tops the 2016 Olympics top 10 medal list. At the same time, very strange concessions were made to American athletes. For example, the jury of appeal allowed the US women's team to run the 4 x 100 meter relay qualification a second time. This decision was made after the statement of the runner Allison Felix that the opponent pushed her, which made Felix unable to pass the baton. There are already jokes on the Internet about "next time give the Americans all the gold and let them go home."

Although for those who leave Rio in good spirits, with a sense of accomplishment and with a won medal, such a trifle as rain hardly spoiled the experience of the first Olympic Games in South America.

Few doubted that the US team would win the team event. In 1992, during the Games in Barcelona, the Americans took the second place, losing to the united CIS team. Since then, they have invariably been among the leaders of the overall team classification. The only "misfire" happened in Beijing in 2008, where they ceded leadership to the Chinese.

The British, who did not even get into the top ten at the Games in Barcelona (1992) and Atlanta (1996), and finished it in Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004), became the second.

Until the penultimate day of the competition, Russia waged a desperate struggle with Germany for the fourth line and was ultimately able to outstrip its competitors, winning two more golds. The final medal of the highest dignity was brought to the collection of the Russian national team by the freestyle wrestler Soslan Ramonov.

The Georgian national team at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro won seven medals and, in terms of the total number of awards won, repeated the result of the London Games. However, it surpassed them in a qualitative ratio. Four years ago, Georgians only once rose to the highest step of the podium. This time the Georgian anthem was played twice in Rio de Janeiro.

One cannot fail to note the amazing progress of the Azerbaijani Olympians, who won 18 medals at the Games in Brazil (1-7-10). They exceeded the London figure by eight awards.

Heroes of the Olympics ...

Swimmer Michael Phelps, who, for a moment, is already 31 years old, again "came, saw, won." At the Games in Rio, the American won five gold medals and became the 23 (!) Multiple Olympic Champion. It is even difficult to assume that someone will at least be able to approach such indicators in the near future.

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt again won three gold medals: 100 meters, 200 meters and a 4x100 relay, becoming a nine-time Olympic champion. In the last three Olympics, Bolt has consistently won these disciplines.

... and the "heroes of the Olympics"

Athletes of the US women's national team in the semifinals of the 4x100 meter relay dropped the baton and could not qualify for the decisive race. The American women filed an appeal, claiming that they were prevented by Brazilian athletes. The appeal was upheld. The USA national team was allowed to run the semifinals in splendid isolation. In the re-run, they showed better time than their opponents from China, and the latter were "asked" from the final. The appeal of the Asian athletes was not granted, and the American women became Olympic Champions.

Georgian heroes of Rio

If you do not take into account the Georgian athletes who won medals at the Games in Rio, then there are other heroes in Georgia who won the hearts of fans not only in their homeland, but also in the world.

Canoeist Zaza Nadiradze was incredibly happy when he was able to qualify for the Olympics. You couldn't even dream of more. But Nadiradze successfully performed in qualification and reached the semifinals of the single canoe competition at a distance of 200 meters. In the semifinals, he finished first, leaving behind the reigning Olympic Champion Ukrainian Yuriy Cheban and four-time World and European Champion Valentin Demyanenko. But in the final, nervousness and lack of experience in participating in competitions of this rank affected. As a result, Nadiradze finished fifth, but won the hearts of thousands of fans.

Seoul Olympic Champion (1988) in sports pistol shooting Nino Salukvadze came to Rio for her eighth Games of her career. A unique achievement among women in this sport. Salukvadze was able to reach the final of the competition, but in the end she was left without a medal. After the completion of the speeches, she said that most likely she would be preparing for the Tokyo Olympics - the ninth in a row.

David Kharazishvili became the first marathon runner in the history of Georgia who won a license for the Olympic Games. The Georgian athlete had a good start, but at the 25th kilometer he felt a sharp pain in his side. He did not run for almost two kilometers, but simply walked and even thought to withdraw from the distance. However, he found the courage and crossed the finish line. As a result, he finished 72nd, but ended up in the first half of the finishers and left 93 athletes behind.

40 Georgian athletes went to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, which is a record figure. For the first time in the history of independent Georgia, the country was represented in such sports as: women's weightlifting (Anastasia Gottfried), women's judo (Esther Stam), shot put for men (Benik Abrahamyan), high jumping for women (Valentina Lyashenko).

Rio green water

The water in the swimming pool of the Rio de Janeiro Aquatics Center, where the diving competition was to be held, suddenly turned green, which baffled even the technical staff. It was later revealed that this was due to 160 liters of hydrogen peroxide accidentally poured into the pool. The substance neutralized chlorine, which promoted the growth of "organic compounds", including, possibly, algae. Despite the fact that the water did not pose a threat to the health of the athletes, it still had to be replaced.

Estonian trio

The twins did not play very rarely at the Olympics - in the history of the games, about 200 couples took part in them - but the Estonian trio of sisters became a record. Lili, Leyla and Lina Luik - twin sisters from Estonia who took part in the marathon - puzzled the commentators, as they could not tell one from the other.

Invincible Mo Farah

The men's 10 thousand meters race at the Olympics became the decoration of the second day of the athletics tournament in Rio de Janeiro. Briton Mo Farah, the main contender for the gold medal, fell about halfway through the distance after contact with American Galen Rapp. However, the British runner quickly got up, and Rapp slowed down and asked his opponent if everything was all right with him. The incident did not prevent the Briton from winning Olympic gold, although after the distance it seemed that he himself did not believe that this had happened.

Dive Miller

Bahamian sprinter Shauna Miller was able to win the gold medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the 400 meters, ahead of American Allison Felix, literally "diving" headfirst at the finish line. This movement is perfectly legal - according to the rules, it is considered that the first to finish is the one whose torso crossed the finish line first. After the race, Miller stated that the fall was not planned and during the run she did not think about anything like that.
